On the Dutch side, all the action is centered around Philipsburg, the capital of St. Maarten.  Wathey Square is a bustle of activity with taxis, vans and peddlers at the wharf.  On Front Street is the historic Passangrahan Hotel, which was once the Royal Guest House for Dutch royalty.  The Sint Maarten Museum houses pre-Columbian relics and artifacts from Fort Amsterdam and the shipwrecked HMS Proselyte.

Visit Maho Beach on the Dutch side St Maarten and watch the jumbo jets land and take off right over your head. be care full as when they go to take off the thruster packs a punch and a few tourist have been blown off their feet. This is a must see when in St Maarten.

Fort Amsterdam is on a narrow stretch of land that separates Little Bay from Great Bay.  The Dutch built this more than 300 year old citadel on top of the foundation of a Spanish built fort.  From Fort Amsterdam, you can see Fort Willem.  From 1801 to 1848, Fort Willem changed hands 16 times among the Dutch, French and British.  Visitors to St. Maarten will have no trouble finding ways to enjoy themselves.  Philipsburg is home to a number of charming restaurants.  Streets bustle with shops, many offering imported goods from The Netherlands, such as cheeses, chocolates, Delftware and yes, wooden shoes.  You'll find prices here much lower than in the United States.  There are also several casinos.  Active vacationers as well can enjoy a range of sports on St. Maarten, including parasailing, snorkeling and diving, horseback riding, fishing and kayaking.

Marigot on the French side, is quintessential Paris, residents sip coffee at sidewalk cafés and watch the world go by.  The town is bustling with shoppers, business people and tourists.  At night, couples take to the streets hand in hand, savouring the cool breezes that come from Baie de Marigot.  Also on the French side is Grand Case, where you`ll find restaurants featuring some of the finest French cooking in the Caribbean.
