Can you Visit the same ports and still have a good time?
June 4, 2017

This is a question and a discussion that I have heard so many times. I have heard so often, “I don’t want to go back to that port, I have been there before” It makes me wonder how I have been able to take hundreds of cruises over the years and visit the same places many times over and yet I’m able to find a way to have a great time each time, but also have an even better time each time after.

I think the big reason is that those who say this don’t do anything in the port, they often get off the ship, look around, never leave the sight of the ship, and then turn around and go back onboard.

The ports of Call all have so many amazing things to see and do, but often are not right outside the ship. As you probably have seen in the Shore Excursion booklets on the Cruise Ships that most of the Tours are 4-7 hours in length. And that is mostly because a lot of the great sites to see are far from the ship.

I have always been a big advocate for taking tours when going on a cruise because they get to take you to these amazing places you just can’t see on your own. I guess I feel this way because I worked for the cruise lines for many years and my first Job onboard was with the Shore Excursion desk.

I remember when I first started the job I was told that I had to go out and take every tour before I was allowed to start selling them. You can imagine I didn’t object. It was a great experience and I got to see and do everything for FREE.

Over the years I continue to explore the islands on my own and have found that going back to some of my favorite destinations continues to show me new places and things to do.
I guess my point is, if you are going to take the time to get out on a cruise. Actually, spend your hard-earned money to go on a vacation, really plan it out. Do some research, talk to other people and go on websites like this one and find things to do. Make a plan of what your going to do in the ports, and if it is your first cruise, or even if you have cruised before but haven’t had the best time, take a chance and try one of the tours available, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Here is my top ten most memorable shore excursions or things I have done in the ports of call. And as you will see some of them are at the same ports, so you can go to the same place more than once and have a great time.

1. Americas Cup Regatta (St Maarten)
2. Dunn’s River Falls (Jamaica)
3. Extreme Zip Lining (Jamaica)
4. Mayan Ruins of Tulum (Cozumel)
5. Shipwreck Snuba tour (Barbados)
6. Jeep adventure to Passion Island (Cozumel)
7. Rhythms of the Night tour (Puerto Vallarta)
8. White Pass Scenic Railway (Skagway Alaska)
9. Drive the Road to Hana (Maui Hawaii)
10. Haleakala Volcano Observatory (Maui, Hawaii)

These are just 10 of my favorite things to do, but there is so many more. The next time you take a cruise to one of these destinations, I urge you to try one, or two or all of them. Use our site to help you locate the tours and you can now even Book your Tours through our affiliate site.
As always, Be safe and Happy cruising.
